The Lincoln Award

The Lincoln Award was launched as a recognition of achievement in getting involved in extra-curricular activity, aiming to raise the employability of participating students.

Pulling together a range of valuable activities students carry out while at university such as having an organising role in a society or volunteer work, alongside taking part in careers events such as mock interviews and practice psychometric tests, the Lincoln Award gives these activities more credibility.

A colleague and I took the lead on setting up and running the award and in its first year almost 50 students successfully passed the award. We helped one student win a job as HR Manager at Lincoln’s new Double Tree by Hilton hotel.

It was fulfilling to see one of our students benefit form the award so soon but another accomplishment was getting the Lincoln Award established so quickly amongst the key decision makers at the university and also businesses in the local area. Once again, I was able to use my media skills and connections to gain good student publicity and local coverage for the scheme.

Pro Vice Chancellor Professor, Scott Davidson and Enterprise rent-a-car Area Manager, Ross Pengilly attended the awards ceremony to present the certificates.
