The Lincolnite – Lincoln’s hyperlocal news website

The Lincolnite is the city of Lincoln’s leading online daily news source, set up by myself and three other University of Lincoln graduates.

With over 40,000 readers a month, around 2,000 Facebook fans and 2,000 Twitter followers as well as email and mobile app subscribers the site has generated an impressive following in its first 18 months.

Being onboard the project from the outset, I have been forced to take on a diverse role going far beyond that of a journalist. Writing copy and sourcing content for the hyper-local news site has been the easy part but I have also been involved in selling advertising, promoting the site through social media, networking and events.

Despite being in its infancy, The Lincolnite has had some considerable accolades, working with national publications such as The Daily Mail, The Daily Mirror and also Nuts Magazine.

The most satisfying acknowledgement was appearing in the O2 Guru advertising campaign in spring 2011 which is shown below, rewarding our innovation in making our own app for iPhone and Android.

My involvement in the news website has given me an insight into the workings of a news publication and also allowed me to build a varied portfolio of articles.
